The Faculty of Basic Sciences of Payame Noor University was established in 1989.
The faculty initially consisted of the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Mathematics. Then it expanded to the departments of Agricultural Economics, Architecture, Computer, and Statistics.
In 2006, after the establishment of the faculties of Engineering and Agriculture, the departments of Agricultural Economics, Architecture, and Computer were separated from this faculty and were included in the related faculties.
Also, after fundamental changes in the structure of Payame Noor University in 2011, the Faculty of Basic Sciences was renamed to the Department of Basic Sciences. In 2020, the title of Basic Sciences Department was changed to the Faculty again, and now five scientific departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics are active as a subset of the Faculty of Basic Science.
