TEHRAN, Jan. 07 (MNA) – National Iranian Behcup team has landed first in both individual and team sections of International Behcup Competitions, the Peace and Friendship Cup in Mashhad.

The 2017 International Behcup Competitions, dubbed as the Peace and Friendship Cup, were held in the northeast Iranian city of Mashhad with attendance of 10 foreign teams along with the Iranian National Team as the host.

Teams from Georgia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Syria and Tajikistan had participated in the sportive event.

Iran A outfit stood on top of the podium in the team division while Syria ranked second and Iran (B) team and Iraq jointly placed third.

Held in Payam-e Noor University of Mashhad, the tournament saw Iran’s Hossein Latifi winning the trophy in the individual section followed by Ali Mohammad Mirza of India who secured a silver medal. Latifi’s compatriots Davoud Nikbakht and Masoud Asadian shared the bronze medal.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Chancellor of Mashhad's Payam-e Noor University Mohammad Ali Davaryar said that holding Behcup Competitions as the first International event in Mashad 2017 is regarded as an important event.

Behcup series of sports were designed, codified and registered by Mr. Behnam Azad in 2011. These highly recreational and entertaining sports can be played by males and females in all age groups including children, teenagers, youth, adults, middle aged and elderly.

Behcup sports are governed by specific rules that govern the games, competitions and refereeing, and are played with special equipment. The variants of Behcup can be played on synthetic grass, short natural grass, special sports flooring, laminate flooring, stone, beaches and smooth surfaces.

Behcup is similar to golf putting but the ball is putted into a goal not a hole. Two players try to guide the ball, positioned by the other player, into the goal. Players must ensure that the ball stays within the playing area and that it does not touch the other balls on the court. The player with the highest number of goals at the end of the match is considered as the winner.
